All He Does is WIN, No Matter What!!

My boy never fails to amaze me. Fletcher had an assistant with him for all of his freshman year at the Univ of Memphis to assist in pushing around campus because his arms would get tired pushing and maneuvering through the crowds going from class to class but next time he rolls around campus he may have do it by himself. If you know Fletcher he’s always up for a challenge, so in typical form, as I have since his days of mighty mite football for the North Memphis Chiefs, I challenged him.

The challenge: Fletcher wouldn’t be able to push the 2.97mi(4.77k) trail at Shelby Farms without help.
The bet: I would pay him $100 if he completed it. (the boy is motivated by money)

Well I’m happy to say “I LOST”….He completed the course yesterday with no help. He was determined to make it by himself and he did. He wanted no help on the hills, up or down and I must say we are very proud of him. It took 45 mins to complete but a milestone in his road to independence. This is the same trail he ran with a 20lb weight vest in 14 mins before his accident.

On Tues, July 5th he also completed a follow-up interview with the Jackson Sun newspaper for the story “Moving Forward”. They talked with Fletcher for about 1.5hrs and also reported to us that Fletcher’s story won them a few awards.

Fletcher’s story won reporter Matt Vines 1st Place for the report and photographer Aaron Hardin 3rd place for photo-journalism at the 2011 TN Associated Press Managing Editors Awards(TAPME) held in Knoxville in May.

Yes, some time has passed since our last post regarding our notorious Fletcher D. Cleaves, but that doesn't mean our guy isn't still at it - Quite the contrary! As a matter of fact in May, Fletcher left Memphis to attend a "Project Walk" rehabilitation program and is doing just that- WALKING! See for yourself ...

Fletcher Returns to the Eagles

Last weekend our Fletcher took a trip back to Lambuth / Jackson. He was honored during Lambuth's half time scrimmage game and presented with his own Lambuth jersey as pictured. It was his first time back on the school's football field since the accident. Fletcher was truly elated by the event and said how good it felt to be back home with his fellow Eagles! We hope you each are well! It has been a bit since our last post, but here are a few things our Mr. Magnificent has been up to...

Fletcher is continually working hard in rehab at Baptist Hospital in Germantown in both occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT). He goes 3 days a week and works on things such as transferring to and from his chair, strengthen his lower back and shoulders, as well as writing his alphabets. Needless to say he exhausted when he is done.

Recently, Fletcher had an opportunity to return to Jackson and Lambuth's campus on Wed, March 31st, for the first time since his accident almost 7 monyhs ago. Fletcher was being honored at the Senior Art Exhibit of Jamie Carter "BELIEVE". The exhibit was great and Fletcher enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you Jamie for all you have done!!!

He also got a chance to return to the field that same afternoon to visit with his teammates and coach Dickerson during spring practice. It was great to see his smile just being around football again. His classmates/teammates were just as excited to see him as he was to see them. Fletcher was extremely excited to see Dayne back on the field catching passes again. GOD has truly bless him and Fletcher. Fletcher is returning to Lambert on April 17th for the annual blue/white game and plan to be on the sidelines...out of harms way of course.

Fletcher sends his love All!! Our guy had a great weekend. His friend Darain from Huntsville made a dedicated trip to hang out with him and of course they had a great time playing catch up. Fletcher also had visits from out of town family members and some locals who stopped by after the arrangements of his Aunt Merdie who recently passed. (See the gang pictured above;Darain has red arrow on his shirt).

Thanks for continually following the blog everyone! We do realize the blog entries have lessened with the family's return from Shepherd. Although things are pretty routine since back home, we we will make bi-weekly entries and of course give you special updates when deemed on Fletcher's progress.

Wow, March already! Fletcher's working hard to keep up with the speed of the months and doing a great job at it! His schedule of activities is pretty much the same- therapy, acupuncture, and strengthening at the gym. Mom and Dad are well. Once againg we just send another big thanks to Cordova for their hard work on the gala. We're all blessed to have people like you and your contributions to others!!

Another week down and our Fletcher is pushing full speed ahead. Six days a week he's in therapy, acupuncture, or doing strengthening techniques at the gym. This morning he went to therapy early to get more time in the standing frame. He's progressing slowly, but definitely surely- GOD is healing!! Keep praying All! : )

It was a lovely weekend in Memphis. The Cleaves enjoyed some downtime with Grandma Lula and some homecooking at Great grandma's along with other family members. Fletcher is headed to therapy bright and early this Monday morning. Planning to kick it up a notch! Go get'em Fletcher!!

Yesterday, Fletcher visited his old friends at the YMCA and checked out their new indoor pool. Gotta hit the gym hard to get back what he can. Dad has decided to join him in his efforts, so look for two new Fletcher's in the next few months. Later that day dad and mom loosen the security cord and Fletcher went out with a friend for a smoothie....yes without mom or dad for the first time since Sept....small steps day by day.

Today, Fletcher attended acupuncture and lifted weights at home. He then volunteered at the YMCA to help prepare items for Haiti victims....yes mom and dad dropped him off and experienced withdrawals again. I guess they better start getting use to that empty nest again. Keep dreaming, believing and achieving Fletcher. You'll be back full throttle before long.

Therapy is going well for Fletcher. With his pearlie whites gleaming, Fletcher is working hard on his goals. Each week he's at outpatient rehab and on Saturdays he has acupuncture sessions. Mom and Dad are there each step of the way and praises God for the much love and support received.

Yesterday Fletcher made his routine visit to the dentist, gotta keep those pearly whites blinging. He and dad also visited the mall to work on upper strength exercising with his chair. Okay, okay- they did a little shopping too! Probably working on mom's Valentines Day gift. This morning the gang is headed to therapy at Health South. Go get'em Fletcher!

What a weekend. Fletcher had acupuncture on Saturday and then enjoyed the game at home on Sunday. The Saints win the superbowl and the angels send snow. That's right snow! Memphis woke to 4-5 inches of snow this morning. Happy Monday!

Well this has been Fletcher's initial week for evaluation for therapy and acupunture in Memphis. His therapy sessions will be at Health South on Union (close to good downtown eating). He's already in the champion mode so he's planning to push himself as he did at Shepherd.

And being the sports lover he is, our guy is looking forward to the big Superbowl weekend!! He's ready to leave mom and dad to hang out with his friends, but mom and dad ain't ready. Pray for them everyone! In due time, due time...

We thank you each for the great support and ask that you continue to pray for Fletcher's strength and mobility. GOD is good and there's definitely POWER in Prayer...

Well it's Monday and after a week of downtime and a winter wonderland weekend of Memphis snow/ice, Fletcher is back in the rehab game. He goes to therapy and acupuncture this week to start his new regimen. He's also excited and thankful for the gala being held on Feb. 12th and will be getting fitted for his tux today. We would like to thank Jamie for the beautiful artwork recently given to Fletcher. It's an inspiration to him and so many others. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words and as you can see from the image fitted to the word "BELIEVE" in this case even MORE!

It's so easy to stay positive when all is good, but conditioning one's mind to remain positive and faithful when things are rocky can be difficult. Blessing, blessings and more blessings!! The Cleaves made it safely home after four months at the Shepherd center and boy what a feeling. Fletcher is doing well and will begin rehab in Memphis next week. He now has feeling in both hands and slight movement in his toes. (Praises!) So God is still working miracles and this is just the beginning of what he has planned for Fletcher. So it was a good weekend and Fletcher had a chance to relax amongst the company of family and friends.

Another blessing is a fundraiser that was recently announced in Fletcher's honor. Michael Coe (NFL Jacksonville Jaguars) and Chris Taylor (NFL New England Patriots) are hosting the fundraiser. The event is called "Night Among The Stars). It will be held on Feb. 12th at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rod Dickerson, member of the only undefeated team in NFL history, the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Well as the saying goes -All good things must come to an end, but in actuality this is just the beginning for our Fletcher D. Cleaves of course. Today's the last day of therapy at Atlanta's Shepherd Center, but it marks the beginning of Fletcher's journey in the M-Town. Fletcher has accomplished a lot in the extended six week period and now he, mom and dad will be returning to Memphis.

Fletcher would like to send a shout out and recognize the great people of Shepherd for all they've done! A special thanks to Ashley, "Chap"-Chaplain Gross, Dr. Elmers, Fatima, and Leigh!!! You're an awesome group!

Yesterday, Fletcher and his group spent time at the Atlanta airport taking a tour and learning independence techniques for such an environment. He learned a lot and really feels comfortable about flying. A media crew filmed the day and you can only guess who did the interview. You guessed it! He's definitely not camera shy. Can't decide if that's a Mel or a big Fletcher trait...smile.

Well, now that our guy is in every Shepherd video, he's asked the PR Director how he gets on payroll ~ LOL. Only Fletcher! But for sure he's honored to know that the skills learned will be used as a teaching tool for others. Fletcher's wit and tenacity continues to inspire so many and sheds light when things can be difficult to endure. Keep it up Fletcher. We're proud of you!

It's Wonderful Wednesday and the Cleaves boys are indeed missing mom. She will be rejoining the guys tomorrow back in ATL. Can you believe it's only two days left of Fletcher's six additional weeks of therapy? Time has indeed flown! Nevertheless, a lot has been accomplished in these weeks.

Fletcher is working hard on new skills this week. One of his sessions allows him to test new technology for driving. And yes he loves that!! Dad says Fletcher thinks he's really ready to drive. Fletcher and dad spent the weekend watching football and catching up on much needed rest. Mom is back in Memphis and her boys are missing her already.

On Friday afternoon Fletcher was videoed by Shepherd Center staff as he was held upright in the standing frame by the "Overhead Hoyer System" (pictured below). The video will be shared with other spinal cord injury facilities to show other uses for the system. While working out for the camera, Fletcher spotted James Shepherd, the center's founder (gentleman pictured on scooter). Of course he called him over. Fletcher can talk to anybody and ask anything. And he did by asking Mr. Shepherd about getting a smoothie machine on-site. He won't be getting free smoothies any time soon, but the request is in~ LOL! We just love you guy :-)

Giving thanks today for the grace of God and recognition to the work done by so many, like Dr. King and Mr. Shepherd who's efforts make the world a better place for each of us!~ Happy MLK Day~

Fletcher and his Shepherd group spent four hours at Dave and Buster's on a team outing. They say it was therapy but they may have just wanted to get away from the parents. Indeed, they had a ball and Fletcher being Fletcher wanted to win every game he played.

He ended his day with an acupuncture session and later watched a movie with mom and dad. The family is gearing up to come home in the next few days. Shepherd is Shepherd and definitely a great place, but home is HOME!!! ...besides dad hasn't cooked ribs in 4 months. Can we get some ribs please ~smile!!

Fletcher is hard at work with three sessions of the Lokomat scheduled this week and water therapy scheduled for next week. Of course he gets a little fatigued, but that's only temporarily. Week 4 and things are moving quite nicely. Fletcher has become a champ on the lokomat and continues to gain body strength as he pulls more of his own weight during his sessions. The Cleaves parents are also good and continue to learn care techniques and work on projects for making home more accomodating for our guy. Keep up the grand work guys.

Happy Friday-we made it! One week down 51 more left, but we all know how fast they'll zoom by. Fletcher is doing well this morning after a busy Thursday. Mom and he are back in sessions most of the day. Dad made his way back to Memphis to keep other things moving forward. ATL is just as cold as Memphis and the schools are closed in both cities. At least we know the weather is providing equal opportunites to all. No worries...without a doubt our Mel has herself and everyone else layered up as she always does ; )

Fletcher's Wednesday was jammed pack. He had his acupuncture session as mentioned in yesterday's blog, but also worked with his Occupational therapist, did swimming, and walked the locomat. This time on the locomat they allowed him to walk with 75% of his own weight. It felt a little different. Fletcher said he didn't realize how heavy he was.

While with his OC (occupational therapist) Fletcher practiced putting his eye contacts in and then taking them out. Well, guess what?!! He did so well that they will be filming him today as he performs this task. The film will be used as a training video for other quadriplegics to show them it can be done. Since Fletcher doesn't have use of his fingers this was an incredible task to accomplish! Great work Fletcher!! You know mom will be filming as they film Fletcher, so stay tune for the video post.

Fletcher next hit the pool for more physical therapy which really tired him out. He swam a full lap floating on his back...another not so easy task!!!! He then finished the afternoon with his acupuncture session and then it was lights out for him once home. It was a long day but it revealed many great things.

Time waits for no one and 2010 has arrived! After enjoying family and friends over the New Year holiday and bringing it in with his new family at Ben Hill United Methodist Church, Fletcher's back in the game full force this first week. On yesterday he got going bright and early with the with the Locomat machine; hopefully he won't break it this year~smile. He also continued his acupuncture sessions. Click here for Images

Needless to say that after the long 9 - 5:30 sessions, Fletcher got his sleep in. To give you an idea, let's just say he ate dinner around 9:00 p.m. He then played games with mom and let her win this time. What can you say, the kid has heart-Lol! Fletcher was all smiles yesterday afternoon following a day of intense therapy and yes hard work does indeed pay off. After therapy he showed mom and dad that he is able to move his left index finger!!!! You would have thought he made a complete fist from the excitement mom and dad showed : ) Praises and more praises! We're giving GOD the glory for all he has done, is doing and will continue to do for Fletcher in his recovery.

Fletcher's keeping staff at Shepherd on pins and needles - LITERALLY : ) Yesterday Mr. 6000 had an acupuncture session to stimulate nerve points and muscle activity. The session went well and he continues to work hard in all of his therapy sessions. Without a doubt with prayer and Fletcher's determination things will continue to progress.

The Cleaves family made it back to Atlanta last night after a wonderful Christmas break. Fletcher received many gifts and delightful treats to eat and take back to Shepherd. Mom said the best gift of all was being with family and friends during the break. Amen!

It's Christmas Eve and Fletcher is headed to morning therapy. After he finishes his session, he and Mom and Dad are hitting the road headed back to Memphis to spend Christmas. It has been a short week, but Fletcher has done well and continues to work hard to mobilize himself in every way. Keep up the good work Fletcher!

Fletcher's back on the Lokomat machine in therapy everday this week (excluding holiday). A lot of electric stimulation is being placed on his back and legs in order to strengthen all of the muscles that were found to have trace movement. He's also spending a lot of time on the standing frame this week. He's profiling his winner attitude as he pushes full steam ahead and gives God all of the glory!! He may even sleep through Christmas from all the effort - lol!

Fletcher has taken advantage of all the love shown since returning home. We don't think he's pushed his chair on his on once. He's been allowing anyone willing to do it for him. He says he's on vacation from working so hard 3 straight months, Mon - Fri, 9 -4. Well, Welcome to the real world Fletcher. It's just a glimpse of what you have to look forward to after college. Believe it or not, some have been doing this for 20 years or more...hmm, think that may sound like a job or something. (smile)

Fletcher is really striving to regain his independence and with his best friend Rashard with him the community is in trouble. The two are headed to the mall today with friends. Mom and Dad are holding thier breath as it feels like him going off to college all over again. We're sure he's going to be fine since Shepherd has prepared him for this day with the many outings during therapy. Plus he's been with mom and dad now for 3 months.

There is no way we could have gotten to this point without you! We serve an awesome GOD! We love you and thank you from the bottom of our heart.

Day 6 at home and Fletcher is still catching up with friends, classmates , and family! He's so thankful for the support he has received! He, mom, and dad are headed back to Atlanta this weekend to begin six more weeks of therapy at Shepherd. In the meantime, Fletcher continues to do home therapy between his catch up sessions with visitors. You're amazing dude!

Fletcher continues to keep it moving as he enjoys time home with friends and family members. Mom and dad are working hard to keep up with they're 19 year old, who's still celebrating his recent birthday catching up with friends he hasn't seen for months. Mom says he just unbelievable and his motivation is what keeps them inspired. No doubt, we all know it's what keeps us all inspired in our faith as well! Thank you Fletcher!

Fletcher started his week at home just as busy as his days at Shepherd. He was fitted for his power chair (yeah, the one he says he doesn't need any more) THANK GOD!!! He did an interview with Lauren Johnson from FOX news and then visited Cordova High. Fletcher was just as glad to see all the coach's and students as they were to see him. It felt good to be back in familiar surroundings.

He later caught the Grizzlies / Celtics game with Rashard, Kevin Estee and dad (boys night out). Fletcher received a few words of encouragement from former Memphis Tiger Antonio Burks in the hallway of the Forum. Needless to say Fletcher's day has been exhausting at home as it was at Shepherd, but he'll never let you know he's tired. Another full day today.....LORD give us strength to keep up with him~ LOL!

Friday evening sparked as Fletcher arrived home from the Shepherd Center Atlanta. The Cleaves were met by family and a few friends at their Cordova home. Tears of joy and many praises on high flowed as they were greeted at the door. Mom and Dad even surprised Fletcher by arranging to pick up Dayne, who's on Christmas break from Lambuth, on the drive in. Once home Mom delivered the news theat Shepherd has granted Fletcher six more weeks of therapy because he now has feeling in his thigh area and buttocks ~ Hallelujah! So the stay home is only for one week, but what a great week it will be! Fletcher's birthday is this Saturday, Dec. 12, but yesterday he got to celebrate it early with his therapy team. The awesome group presented Fletcher with a custom made doughnut cake! It consisted of 3 dozen Krispy Kremes stacked into a pyramid -WOW!!!! Fletcher is pushing forward to be as independent as possible. When asked by his physical therapist what he wanted to work on yesterday, Fletcher chose to practice on getting in and out of a car. Understand that due to Fletcher's injury he is always cold, nevertheless he chose to brave ATL's 40 degree weather yesterday morning to work on his personal goals.

This was his second attempt at accomplishing this feat. The first time he barely got out of his chair. Well, this time HE DID IT!! Yes, he was able to get in the car. It wasn't pretty and it took some time and some assistance, but he made it! Practice, practice, practice.....we're sure he'll be doing this by himself in no time.

Job well done..again Fletcher!! Keep on working and never give up.

Fletcher had a great weekend! He received a special visit from Coach Dickerson from Lambuth University on Friday. The team has not been defeated their entire season and recently won the conference~Way to go Eagles! Fletcher and the team will be presented with conference rings and bragging rights of course.

On Sunday the Cleaves visited Ben Hill United Methodist Church and was floored by the presence of the spirit and the welcome received from the congregration. The church prayed for Fletcher and took them all in as their own. It was a powerful and divine experience!! The Cleaves felt so blessed and honored. Thank YOU Ben Hilll- UMC!!

As named by his Aunt Michickia, our "Mr. 4000" is up and at it again bright and early this Friday! He's still progressing and continues to push himself each day to reach his goals.

On yesterday he spent the morning Christmas shopping during his weekly Shepherd Center outting. Later in the day mom joined him to spend the afternoon watching a spectucular Cavalia Horse Circus performance. They had a great time and recommends it to all.

Fletcher literally shopped til he dropped because he woke up from an evening nap at 8:30 p.m. : ) Must have gotten everyone something good!

Almost Friday and it's been a busy week for Fletcher. On yesterday he got off to a great start with time on the Lokomat, he then made meatballs from scratch for spaghetti during his occupational therapy session (mom and dad got a chance to eat it and it was good). Fletcher later did some physical therapy and finished the day off with a bang in the weight room with dad. Needless to say it was nap time as soon as he got back to the room.

Fletcher continues to get stronger every day! He thought he would show off his newly acquired strength and skills last night by showing mom and dad that he's able to sit up in the bed by himself. This was one of his goals when he started the day program a few weeks ago. Job well done Fletcher! This allows him to assist more with dressing himself and mom and dad no longer will have to turn him every 6hrs to keep him from getting bed sores. He can do it himself! What a BIG accomplishment. WAY TO GO Fletcher!!!!! This is just the beginning.

Fletcher is still receiving great home cooked meals even though Thanksgiving is over, thanks to Rita and Marvin. Marvin fried fish and Rita made a great pasta with turkey meat sauce. Family, you gotta LOVE them! Thanks everyone for making ATL feel like home : )

Fletcher is moving forward. He's working hard on moving himself independently in the bed as well as strengthening his shoulders. He stood up for about 45mins with assistance from the standing frame.. Feels good to be upright. He finished the day working on his fine motor skills by playing board games. Keep up the great work Fletcher. Never give up.....GOD heals!

Wow-December already! We hope you each had a wonderful holiday. Thanks to all the family and friends that changed their Thanksgiving plans to call or come to ATL to share time with the Cleaves Family. We love you all! What a wonderful special Thanksgiving it was. Fletcher even received a surprise visit from his girlfriend (you should have seen that smile!). Thanksgiving is officially over but never stop giving thanks to our creator!

Well, Fletcher is back on the grind this week. The Lokomat machine is fixed and Fletcher did his 4000 steps on Monday-wheewww! He's scheduled to be back on it two more times this week. Fletcher continues to work on building his strength to assist in getting out of his chair independently. He's no stranger to the weight room. Keep pushing Fletcher!!!

The Cordova High football team held their annual banquet Nov 30th to cap off their 2009-10 season. It ended a little premature with a first round playoff loss, but was still a great season! Congrats guys!!! Also a BIG THANKS and LOVE to Coach John Dowtin (Coach D) who officially renamed the tough as "Nails Award" to the "Fletcher Cleaves Nails Award". Fletcher is so very pleased and honored! The the first ever recipient is Kerrick "KO" Owens....Congratulations K.O. ....WOLF PACK FOR LIFE!

Fletcher is looking forward to seeing family from both mom and dad's family. Especially his grandmother Lula (who brings treats!!!) We're not sure if it's all the holiday plans that got Fletcher excited, but the other day the iRobot machine (Locomat) broke while he was on it. Anybody got about $280,000 to pay for it? :-) Yep, it's quite a piece of equipment!

We thank everyone in advance for making plans to spend Thanksgiving in ATL. Paul and Lila have been more than gracious to open thier home to everyone. Luv ya cuz!!! It's kind of like a small reunion. The other Cartwright's and Boyd's will hate they missed this one. Pictures to come.

Happy Monday! As we enter into the Thanksgiving holiday week, we are thanking God for the many blessings of family, friends and especially angels that he has provided into our lives. Like the wonderful group of individuals that took time out of their busy weekend to assist with the build of a ramp for Lil Fletcher. Fletcher is doing well and continues outpatient therapy at the Shepherd Center. He's still receiving therapy on the lokomat machine along with stretching exercises and other therapy techniques to strengthen his upper body and stimulate movement. This Wednesday we bring you news of God's wondrous work. On yesterday it was confirmed that Fletcher has movement in his left thumb, his right thigh, and also his upper abs. This is faint movement, but it's still affirmation that our PRAYERS ARE BEING ANSWERED! We are all excited and of course this is BIG for Fletcher and he was all smiles when he received the news (but did you expect anything else from him). We're giving God the glory and thanking him for his healing power! This is just the beginning of something great! Our time is not HIS time but it all ends in victory!

Fletcher enjoyed his weekend of football and rest. Therapy is going well and he's all geared up this Monday for a week of more progress. He's been playing board games to work on regaining the use of his hands, but of course Fletcher's goal is to win the games too. He says "It feels better to win and gain strength in my hands than to lose." Just Fletcher being Fletcher : ) Yes, he's making his mark on the nurses and therapist in the day program. They love his smile and go get'em attitude in everything he does. Of course we all love that about him too!

Fletcher has always been a person to perform for reward. Recently he set a few goals for himself and asked his dad that if he completed his goals would he consider allowing him to drive again? Dad thought it over because the goals Fletcher had set were no easy task, but definitely doable. So dad gracefully agreed. So after the agreement our champ immediately started pushing it to overdrive. Yep "It's on now"!!

Fletcher worked so hard the last two days that his bed time has been a little earlier each night. WORK, RECOVER and REST! WORK, RECOVER and REST! A personal quote of Fletcher's! "I need my vitamins" he says. I'm here for rehab so I may as well go all out. Nothing to lose but everything to gain. I gotta get back to my BEAST mode!" : )

"He's unbelievable" says Mom and Dad! They often tell the story of Fletcher's tatoo he received for his 18th birthday. When he could have picked so many things the youth made it original and had the words- FOR THOSE I LOVE I WILL SACRIFICE, and that he has been living daily! We love you Fletcher!

After returning from the weekend Fletcher's therapist was impressed with the increase in his strength!! He's continually getting stronger physicially and also spiritually. This week Fletcher was able to share his testimony of GOD's good will with two families that were recently admitted to Shepherd and had heard of Fletcher's story. One family was from the Chatanooga area and the other from Hernando, MS. Fletcher spoke with them about keeping the faith and believing in prayer. One mom was really impressed with Fletcher's smile and attitude and thanked him for taking the time to talk. We shared tears of hope, joy, encouragement and belief for all God has done and is doing.

So, as you continue to pray for Fletcher please say a special prayer for the numerous other families at Shepherd and everywhere that are going through similiar situations. It's the power of prayer...Keep Praying!!

Now that Fletcher has moved from the hospital to out-patient therapy, he and his parents are working this week to get settled into their new living arrangement. Fletcher's excited and says he has to keep his mind sharp and has a little time now to read all his cards and books sent by so many of you. Thanks T.C. for the "10-minute Toughness" book!

He still plans to graduate with his Lambuth freshmen class and says, "They have a head start on me, so I just gotta work a little harder." : ) So look out 2013 Eagles, Fletcher's on your heels.

Well he did it again! Today Fletcher graduated for his second time in 2009-this time from Shepherds SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) Rehabilitation In-Patient Program. He received the Shepherd Center "Superlative Award" for being "The Professor". Fletcher would regularly correct his Therapeutic Recreational Specialist to pronounce her words or argue with his Physical Therapist about what muscles actually holds his scapula and clavicle together, all with a smile of course. Just Fletcher being Fletcher!!! Fletcher gets today off and will continue his journey at Shepherd's out-patient program beginning Wednesday at 9:00am sharp. Please continue to pray for his recovery. The Cleaves sends their love and thanks for your encouragement and inspirational words and comments on Fletcher's Commercial Appeal story. It's been pure motivation for us all!

Fletcher enjoyed his weekend with visits from Grandma Lula, Chuck, Kim and little Morgan. Of course Grandma and Kim brought treats....in which Dad enjoyed as well : ) Fletcher got his opportunity to ride back in a car after 6 weeks (the little things we take for granted) and checked out a few more Atlanta restaurants. The family went for Mexican on Friday and on Saturday visited Gladys Knight's chicken and waffles restaurant. YUM! Fletcher ,a true southerner, enjoyed shrimp and grits (definitely no hospital entree). Guess you can see his appetite has not been affected.

In another small step on the road to recovery, Fletcher will graduate from inpatient therapy and transition to outpatient therapy during the next week. This will allow him to live on-site in Shepherd's family apartments with his parents. During this period he will continue daily therapy from 9 am - 4 pm (Mon-Fri) while learning to function independently in a home like setting. So keep praying and hold tight for more blessings ahead : ) Prayer is POWERFUL....Keep praying

It’s Wednesday and Fletcher’s week has been in overdrive! His therapy is going well and he’s had some new exercises introduced. Visits from high school classmates Colbi and D.T. sparked the week and also a surprise visit from celebrity Daryl "Chill" Mitchell (Actor of Foxes’ new sitcom “Brothers” and from the movie “House Party”!

Daryl shared with Fletcher his story of how his motorcycle accident in 2001 brought him to the Shepherd Center for rehab. Even more of a coincidence is the fact that Daryl resided in the same exact room Fletcher is in now 8 years ago!! Fletcher had many questions for Daryl and he answered everyone and added very positive and encouraging words! Just another testimony of God’s miraculous power!

It's Monday and Fletcher is back at his daily regimen of therapy with a smile! He and his parents enjoyed a great weekend. Family members from Memphis came to visit and of course Rashard and Fletcher caught up on past time memories each night to sun up! Check out the guys tuckered out from their memory lane madness : )

TGIF!! Oh yeah, Fletcher successfully pushed his way through another week! What better way to top of this week's accomplishments than with a friendly surprise...a BEST FRIEND surprise that is. Rashard (Fletcher's best friend since elementary) made a surprise visit to the ATL to hang out with his lifelong buddy. What a wonderful way to end a great week! Let the good times roll guys! Of course our Fletcher will be back in full force on Monday : )

Prayer and praises go up and blessings will definitely come down! And what a blessing it is to report that Fletcher's upper body strength has improved! So much, that on yesterday he was transitioned from the power chair to a manual chair! And if one blessing is not enough, we have another. Also on yesterday he told his parents that there is now more feeling in his hand and fingers! Check out Fletcher and Mom chair racing! Yep, she lost again and she had the power chair :) Fletcher you cease to amaze us. Love you!

It's Wonderful Wednesday and Fletcher is pushing full steam ahead! On yesterday he and Dad hit the real weight room as Fletcher lifted to his full capacity. He's not at 500 lbs yet, but just wait it won't be long : ) The family finished their evening with Jason's Deli and a prayer thanking God for their many blessings! Dad said to let you know that they also send their thanks and love to each of you for the many prayers and support! Keep praying!!! XOXOXO

We thank God as Fletcher continues to progress! The Shepherd Center is providing excellent care and therapy which is helping Fletcher get stronger day by day. On yesterday our sport challenged Mom in a competitive game of ping pong! Take a guess who won... : )

Fletcher is back to his weekly routine after a nice weekend with Mom and Dad. The Cleaves had a chance to check out a few Atlanta restaurants for dinner, Mexican on Friday and Italian on Saturday. Fletcher received some of Mom's personal TLC (tender, loving, care) with a good body massage and help with his daily stretches. Of course he and Dad shared their favorite bonding time as well by watching football and cheering on their teams ~"Go Broncos and Lambuth Eagles!!"
