Fletcher Update - Oct 26

The Cleaves sends their love and thanks for your encouragement and inspirational words and comments on Fletcher's Commercial Appeal story. It's been pure motivation for us all!

Fletcher enjoyed his weekend with visits from Grandma Lula, Chuck, Kim and little Morgan. Of course Grandma and Kim brought treats....in which Dad enjoyed as well : ) Fletcher got his opportunity to ride back in a car after 6 weeks (the little things we take for granted) and checked out a few more Atlanta restaurants. The family went for Mexican on Friday and on Saturday visited Gladys Knight's chicken and waffles restaurant. YUM! Fletcher ,a true southerner, enjoyed shrimp and grits (definitely no hospital entree). Guess you can see his appetite has not been affected.

In another small step on the road to recovery, Fletcher will graduate from inpatient therapy and transition to outpatient therapy during the next week. This will allow him to live on-site in Shepherd's family apartments with his parents. During this period he will continue daily therapy from 9 am - 4 pm (Mon-Fri) while learning to function independently in a home like setting. So keep praying and hold tight for more blessings ahead : ) Prayer is POWERFUL....Keep praying

  2. Fletcher, what a way to go. The word for today is God's Blessing. See how God is Blesing you. God's power is greater than any problem we face. God is always with us, even through our darkest and difficult time. Hold steadfast to your Faith. Your Blessing is coming thru. You will walk not on our time but God's time. He is still Humbling you. When you come out of this you will be brand new. You will have a different walk and a different talk. Just wait and let God have his way with you. 4. Fletcher,

You attitude through all of this is truly an inspiration. Just in a few moments, you have reminded me of what it means to have true faith in Christ. Your faith will get you through this. Keep praying. Mr. Boykin and I will be intentionally praying for you on a daily basis. God is our all-powerful healer.

    Love you,

  5. Hi Fletcher, we have never met but I read your story in the Commercial Appeal. I am a 40-yr old mom of two young girls and you embody the very attitude I have tried to instill in my kids for when they eventually and undoubtedly face hardships in their lives. You ARE what so many of us Christians (and those who are not!) aspire to be, and would like to BELIEVE we would be (but am not convinced we would) in times of crisis. You are being humbled right now, and you are humbling me right now.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4

Only you and God know just how difficult the work is that you are doing, but persevere and be complete.
    Love to you,
    Tammy

  6. Fletcher, I just read your story in The Commercial Appeal and can't tell you how close to home it hit. My nephew, who is also 18, is a lot like you. A skydiver since he was 14, he has made thousands of jumps, got his pilots license, and had plans for a long and healthy future. In August he was injured in a serious parachuting accident and is now also paralyzed from the chest down. He is undergoing therapy at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. You can read about him on Facebook, Jarrett Martin's Recovery, at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=240116445566&ref=ts. I know my brother would also enjoy talking to your father because they are both going through the same thing right now.

You two have a lot in common and I think could understand each other and what you're going through. I know he would love to talk to you, and I am sending him the link to your article.

I wish the best for you and will include you in my prayers as well. God can do miracles and often does. Sometimes we just don't recognize them right away. Keep up the hard work; anything is possible if we want it bad enough.

    Love,

    Syndi Martin
